AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE GOVERNING AUTHORITIES OF THE CITY OF CLARKSDALE TO DESIGNATE THE INTERSECTION OF U.S. HIGHWAY 61 AND U.S. HIGHWAY 49 IN THE CITY OF CLARKSDALE AS THE "CROSSROADS" IN RECOGNITION OF THE LEGEND OF BLUES MUSICIAN ROBERT JOHNSON; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. (1) The governing authorities of the City of Clarksdale are authorized to designate the intersection of U.S. Highway 61 and U.S. Highway 49 in the City of Clarksdale as the "Crossroads" in recognition of the legend of blues musician Robert Johnson and the long and rich cultural history crediting that location and the City of Clarksdale as the birthplace of the blues.

(2) The governing authorities of the City of Clarksdale, with the cooperation and approval of the Mississippi Department of Transportation, may place appropriate signs or plaques on or along the highway intersection described in subsection (1) of this section.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
